OUR VETERINARIAN

Dr. John Summar has years of experience treating many kinds of animals in many types of practices. He was raised on a cattle ranch and worked for mixed animal practices in Oklahoma and Texas both before and after graduating from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985.

In 1988 he bought a mixed animal veterinary practice in Conifer, Colorado where he treated dogs, cats, horses, cattle, llamas, and goats, among other species. During this time he also worked overnight shifts as an emergency veterinarian in Denver’s Central Veterinary Emergency Hospital.

A 1994 graduate of the University of Denver’s College of Law, Dr. Summar is a member of the Colorado Bar but he prefers practicing veterinary medicine over being an attorney! He temporarily left Colorado to become a veterinarian for the Honolulu Zoo and enjoyed the challenge of treating a variety of animals; from birds and frogs to elephants and rhinos. Upon returning to the mainland, he then joined a very busy small animal and exotic animal private practice in Centennial where he practiced for over 14 years. In April of 2017, Dr. Summar opened his own practice, Valley Veterinary Hospital in the Bear Valley area of Denver. At Valley Vet, he can focus on his passion for compassionate treatment of not only dogs and cats; but also birds and other exotic animals including reptiles, turtles, ferrets, chinchillas, rabbits, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, rats, and more!

Dr. Summar lives in Conifer with his wife who is also a veterinarian. They have three grown children, several horses and a dog. Dr. John is happiest when he is kayaking or canoeing on rivers in Oklahoma or when he is hiking in places where he can watch wildlife.

Head TECHNICIAN

Kris Davey was born and raised in Colorado.  She first started working with animals when she was 15 at the Colorado Horse Rescue.  She went on to train horses and work at a ranch in Northwest Colorado for 3 years. Kris decided to start her career working as a veterinary technician working in a one doctor practice in the Thornton, Colorado. After working there for a year, she attended Bel-Rea Institute and earned her Veterinary Technician degree in 2003.  Wanting to gain as much experience as possible, she started working in a multi-doctor clinic in Greenwood Village and did relief work at an ER hospital and a specialty center. She spent another 8 years at Homestead Animal Hospital in Centennial, CO where she was able to work with exotic animals and met Dr. Summar.

In April of 2017, she joined Dr. Summar to open Valley Veterinary Hospital and has been happy since. Kris has 3 dogs, Hercules a chihuahua, Lalani the mutt and Jessica a rat terrier as well as 3 reptiles, Trudy, the box turtle, Maui the bearded dragon and Stitch, the leopard gecko, and Handsome her male eclectus.  She loves scrap booking, bowling and all things animal!
